IT’S OFFICIAL: Tommy Oar is moving to Cyprus!

APOEL Nicosia agreed on a €350,000 price tag with Brisbane Roar for Oar’s signature.

Many Australian’s may think his move to the small Greek Island is a step back, although we believe this is one of the biggest opportunities of his career.

Who are APOEL Nicosia?

APOEL are the most successful team in Cyprus, winning the past five consecutive titles. Oar has a good chance to play in the Champions League this year, if APOEL can progress through the qualifying rounds. Their greatest European achievement came in 2011–12, topping their Champions League group and eliminating Olympique Lyonnais in the knock-out stages. Last season, they topped their group in the Europa League, and knocked out Athletic Bilbao in the round of 16.

Now I think we have made it pretty clear that this is a massive step up from the A-League.

The Australian winger will be a great replacement for Greek international Giannis Gianniotas, who returns from loan to Olympiacos.

Oar has 34 caps, and a Spanish passport which means he wouldn’t even be counted as a foreign player.

Oar took to Twitter to express his delight over the transfer.
