Italian goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon believes 17 year old Gianluigi Donnarumma is next in line to take the reigns as Italy’s first choice goalkeeper.

The 38 year old veteran has 161 international caps to his name, and is regarded as one of the greatest ever goalkeepers to represent the Azzurri.

“Donnarumma is a chosen one,” Buffon said at Italy’s press conference on Wednesday.

For a teenager that could still be in high school, Donnarumma can withstand pressure on and off the field. He has established himself as the first choice keeper, after impressing AC Milan manager Vincenzo Montella. Donnarumma has great agility, reach and is a true leader when commanding his defence.

Donnarumma’s becomes the youngest player to be called up to the Italy national squad since 1911. Italy will play France in a friendly tomorrow, before playing Israel in a 2018 World Cup Qualifier on September 5th.
