Real Madrid are the CHAMPIONS of Europe in dramatic fashion after defeating Atletico Madrid 5-3 on penalties.

Sergio Ramos’ opened the scoring with a controversial goal to put Real up 1- 0 within 15 minutes, before Atletico striker Antoine Griezmann stepped up and missed a penalty.

Atletico continued to press high and poses the majority of the ball in search of a goal. The equiliser finally came in the 79th minute through substitute Yannick Carrasco from close range.

Extra-time played out to no avail, forcing the match into penalties.

Following Ramo’s conversion to put Madrid up 4-3, Juanfran hit the post, leaving the fate of the Champions League trophy in Cristiano Ronaldo’s hands.

Ronaldo, as always, stepped up to the plate and smashed the ball into the right of the net.
