Atético Madrid is set to be the fourth and final team to be heading to Melbourne for the 2016 International Champions Cup.

Atlético are poised to join Italian giants Juventus, English Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur and local outfit Melbourne Victory in the round-robin exhibition tournament.

After months of negotiations, Atlético are close to announcing their Australian visit for July, however, the aftermath of a recent FIFA imposed transfer ban for trading under-age players is proving to be the final hurdle before all is signed off.

Understandably, Atlético Madrid’s football department are eager to find the outcome of their official appeal to FIFA before making any commitments to any post-season trips. However, it’s understood discussions between ICC organisers and Atlético Madrid are in their final stages.

It’s expected Atlético will play in Match 3 against Tottenham Hotspur on Wednesday 29th of July.

If confirmed, the Spanish team round out the ICC 2016 tournament which last year hosted Real Madrid, Manchester City and AS Roma. But with the European Championships to be played in July, the squads of all visiting teams will be altered with most of their European stars to be tied up with National Team commitments.
