How this years Champions League pots will look ahead of the draw

I always get excited at this time of year.

It’s hard to hide our anticipation for the Champions League draw this Thursday, especially when the best teams in Europe gear up to go head to head.

This season sees a notable Champions League return for Manchester United, after being crowned Europa League Champions last season.

CL DRAW LIKELY POT BREAKDOWN:

Pot 1: BEST TEAMS IN THE LAND

Pot 1 features last season’s domestic league winners:

  • Real Madrid (Spain)
  • Bayern Munich (Germany)
  • Chelsea FC (England)
  • Juventus FC (Italy)
  • S.L. Benfica (Portugal)
  • AS Monaco FC (France)
  • Spartak Moscow (Russia)
  • FC Shakhtar Donetsk (Ukraine)

Pot 2: BETTER THAN POT 1?

This pool of teams is just as beast as the Pot of Champions! We could definitely be seeing a few groups of death this season.

Pot 2 features a ton of big guns:

FC Barcelona (Spain)

Atletico Madrid (Spain)

Paris Saint-Germain (France)

Borussia Dortmund (Germany)

Sevilla FC (Spain)

Manchester City (England)

Manchester United (England)

FC Porto (Portugal)

Pot 3: THE DARK HORSES

This one contains a pool of teams that could definitely cause a few upsets. Who knows? Maybe some could even progress deep into the knock-out stages.

Pot 3 looks very promising:

S.S.C. Napoli (Italy)

Tottenham Hotspur (England)

FC Basel (Switzerland)

Olympiacos F.C. (Greece)

R.S.C. Anderlecht (Belgium)

A.S. Roma (Italy)

Beşiktaş J.K. (Turkey)

Liverpool (England) Could be the eighth side?

Pot 4: THE UNDERDOGS

These are the guys who could cause the biggest upsets of them all. Every year we hear about amazing Champions League runs by the minnows, and we’re likely to see the same with this pool of teams.

Feyenoord (Netherlands)

NK Maribor (Slovenia)

RB Leipzig (Germany)
