Melbourne City has snapped up another goal-keeper!
Former Adelaide United Captain Eugene Galekovic has signed a two year deal with Melbourne City. It’s an interesting switch for the 36 year old veteran, who played for a decade (238 games) at the Reds including an A-League Championship.
Much like Melbourne Victory’s ‘original derby’, City’s rivalry with Adelaide has been brewing for the past few seasons. Hence why it comes as such a surprise, and disappointment for Reds fans that Galekovic has switched sides.
The transfer rumours escalated following the release of Premier League great Thomas Sorensen.
The former Socceroo is tipped to be selected ahead of Dean Bouzanis for the starting position.
“I’m delighted to be joining Melbourne City,” Galekovic said.
“This is a great club, an ambitious club which gives its players every chance to succeed both on and off the field.”
“To have the opportunity to return home and continue my career in Melbourne is very exciting and hopefully I can use my experience to push City to even greater heights.”
