We all identify the Portuguese superstar with the famous number seven seen on the back of his football shirt. But who was Cristiano Ronaldo before CR7?
CR7 Chapter 4: Forged for Greatness
Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson signed 18 year old unknown talent from Portuguese side Sporting Lisbon. The pacy left winger expected to be handed his previous number #28, although this wasn’t the case.
Ferguson realized the potential in Ronaldo, and handed him United’s most famous shirt number.
‘Listen, I want you to take number seven,” said Ferguson.
“I was surprised because I knew the guys who had worn that shirt,” recalls Ronaldo.
It was this Ferguson’s faith that gave Ronaldo the belief that he could accomplish anything in his path. Ronaldo played a major factor in a hat-trick of titles, and won the world’s best player award in 2008.
“In the five years that I was there, I learned the art of football”
– Cristiano Ronaldo
The Real Madrid star has paid tribute to his former clubs and previous number in his new football boot. The range and shift in molten-esque colour tones represent his hardworking ironed transformation as a player. The number famous CR7 logo is visible on the side of the boot, as well as Ronaldo’s previous number #28 in Roman numerals on the heel. Amazingly, Nike will release the boot in three different versions – Superfly, Vapor and NikeFootballX on April 10.
