A-League to introduce world first video technology this weekend

Australia will be the one of the first countries in the world to implement Video Assistant Referees. The technology will be used in Friday night’s match between Melbourne City and Adelaide United.

The VAR technology was trialed during an international friendly involving France and Spain, but was not taken well by fans. The game had come to a halt after a wonderful headed goal from Antoine Griezmann was overruled offside.

Germany’s Bundesliga and America’s Major League Soccer leagues also use the new technology.

A-League players have also been warned that any appeals for use of VAR’s to referees will result in a yellow card. This is to remove the element of players appealing for decisions to referees through video technology.

WILL VIDEO TECHNOLOGY IMPROVE THE STANDARD OF REFEREEING?
