Vandals have desecrated a Lionel Messi statue in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
The top half of the Messi statue went missing on Monday morning, the same day Cristiano Ronaldo collected his fourth FIFA Player of the Year award.
City mayor Horacio Rodriguez Larreta initially unveiled the statue to contribute to his campaign to bring Messi out of international retirement.
“The statue of Lionel Messi fell victim to an act of vandalism that left the footballer’s sculpture without its top half,” they said.
“The City Government is now working on its repair.”
