Neymar: Messi to sign new Barcelona deal

Neymar has told reporters Lionel Messi’s next contract extension with FC Barcelona is not far away.

The 29 year old could be set to top Cristiano Ronaldo’s wage of £365,000 a week. Messi’s contract expires mid 2018, but club president Josep Maria Bartomeu is keen to put pen to paper immediately.

Brazilian team-mate Neymar spoke to journalists in Sao Paulo about Messi’s future, reports FourFourTwo.

“We hope that Messi will stay in Barcelona with us.”

“I expect that he will sign a new deal soon.”

Neymar has four goals and six assists to his name this season. Barcelona are chasing Spanish league leaders Real Madrid who are three points clear of the Catalans.

“I am very happy with the season I’m having so far, even with few goals.”

“They will happen naturally.”

“I am very happy with the assists, and I want to help the team in the best way I can.”

Barcelona go into their next league fixture against Villarreal with great confidence after defeating Hercules 7-0 in the Copa del Rey overnight.
