Manchester City now have a skip in their step heading into the busy Christmas Premier League period with a 2 – 1 victory against Arsenal overnight.
However, despite the impressive performance, City supporters were left scratching their heads over an unusual tribute to an injured teammate before kick-off.
City star Ilkay Gundogan suffered a season ending knee injury during last week’s clash against Watford. And to acknowledge their teammates recovery, all of City’s starting line-up appeared out of the tunnel wearing Gundogan’s number 8 shirt.
Whilst you could say the tribute is ‘touching’, fans took to social media to express their confusion over the ‘odd’ situation. So much so, Gundogan jokingly confirmed to fans that he was still ‘alive’.
Thanks to my teammates 👏👏🏽 & of course – congrats to my boys to this crucial win against #AFC👍 PS: Don’t worry – I’m still alive 😉 #MCIARS pic.twitter.com/det9q7C8Wp
