It’s not everyday goalkeepers take the spotlight over strikers, but that’s what happened this morning in the UEFA Champions League.

The first amazing save comes from Germany where Bayer Leverkusen hosted Tottenham Hotspur. A loss for Spurs would have seen the Germans leapfrog them into second place.

Javier ‘Chicharito’ Hernandez has been a different player since leaving Manchester United, and was shocked to see his shot not called for a goal. It took goal-line technology for the refs to determine that Lloris’s incredible diving save had in-fact kept the ball from crossing the line.

The next incredible piece of goalkeeping comes from England, where English Premier League Champions Leicester City took on F.C. Copenhagen. The Foxes had the ascendancy thanks to a goal from Riyad Mahrez, although it took a world class save from Kasper Schmeichel to deny the Danes from stealing a point at the death. Schmeichel looked like a mirror of his father in goals, making a quick reaction save to his right.

Our last piece of goalkeeping brilliance comes from none other than the great Gianluigi Buffon. His amazing performance against Lyon this morning comes after an unusual run of mistakes for Italy and Juventus.

Buffon has once again proved all the critics wrong, making multiple stops and saving a penalty, keeping Juventus on top of group H.
