Liverpool FC has sold Mario Balotelli to French Ligue 1 club OGC Nice for free.

We could say Mario Balotelli’s career took a downward spiral when Jurgen Klopp took over as manager, but it never really took off to begin with.

It’s a final lifeline for the troubled Italian, who trained with the Reds reserves for much of the off-season.

“We are very pleased to welcome Mario,” said Nice president, Jean-Pierre Rivère.

“We hope that Nice, in a family atmosphere, will help him rediscover his joy for the game.”

“We both know that nothing will be easy but with the desire and support of all our fans, we’ll help him to flourish and bring his talent to the service of the team.”

The striker is notoriously known for his off-field antics that have landed him in some seriously hot water.

Along with all of his success, the bad boy has found himself in a number of controversial incidents over the years. From shooting an air gun in public, reported relations with Italian Mafia, crashing expensive cars, and even lighting his house on fire with fireworks.8fa2824e37b40a7c9c01aa90d2473d7c

Simon Hughes of the Independent reported that Mario Balotelli once kicked an own goal from halfway during a Liverpool training match.

His move to the Ligue 1 club couldn’t come at a better time. Time is running out for the 26 year old, who will soon find that despite Nice’s pretty beaches, this season will be no holiday.

With two wins and a draw, third placed Nice will be aiming to compete for the Ligue 1 title. It may sound crazy, but PSG look a completely different side to last season so a walkover looks unlikely. Nice will also compete in the UEFA Europa League this season. It means that one way or another, Balotelli will definitely receive ample game-time as manager Lucien Favre will look to rotate the squad and keep players fresh.
