VIDEO: Brazil narrowly downs Australia in a ridiculously intense penalty shootout

Brazil are moving through to the semi-finals of the Women’s Olympic football tournament, narrowly defeating Australia 7-6 in a heart-stopping penalty shootout.

On the back of a tense ninety minutes and extra time, both teams were locked head-to-head despite Brazil having more shots on goal, compared to the Aussies.

Earlier in the shootout, Australia had one foot in the Semi-Finals after Australian keeper Lydia Williams saved Women’s Ballon d’Or winner, Mata’s penalty shot into the bottom corner.

However, Katrina Gorry was unlucky to have her shot narrowly saved by Barbara.

Barbara’s decisive save was met with scenes of jubilation from the Brazilian crowd in Belo Horizonte.

However the shootout wasn’t with its controversy. Brazilian keeper could be seen through multiple of the Australian’s shots far off her line.

What do you think? Was Barbara too far off her line? Tell us on Facebook.
