Marseille security tested as French Ultras fight English fans on streets

French police arrested two fans, after a violent brawl broke out on the streets of Marseille last night between English and local fans.

Kevin Miles, chief executive of the Football Supporters’ Federation says that the English supporters were the victims of a planned attack by Marseille ultras, reported in the Daily Mail.
“It was all fine until, our understanding is, a group of around 30 to 40 locals turned up, I think with the intention of provoking the England fans to see if they could get a rise out of them. In those circumstances, it’s the police’s job to prevent a confrontation and they used French methods to do so, which we’re not particularly used to.”.

English were heard chanting ‘ISIS, where are you?’.

Fans were left bloody and bruised after wooden chairs were used as weapons in the brawl.

Security looked undermanned and will need to be vigilant when England take on rivals Wales in a weeks time at Lens.
