France’s expected starting lineup against Romania will including a combination of youth and experience.
French manager Didier Deschamps will rely on the experience of his defenders to ensure a victory for the hosts in the opening match for Euro 2016 against Romania.
Deschamps is likely to choose Sagna (Manchester City), Rami (Sevilla), Koscielny (Arsenal) and Evra (Juventus) for his back four.
Kante will play as a center defensive midfielder and will be given free reign to play from box to box. The hardworking midfielder was a major key to Leicester City’s Premier League miracle this season.
Playing in front of him will be the young dynamic superstar Paul Pogba, alongside PSG’s Blaise Matuidi. Pogba has risen to another level this season, bringing much needed flare to the French team. Matuidi is a rock in the midfield, and highly regarded for his strong tackles and high defensive work-rate.
The French attack will cause a fright for the Romanian defense tonight. Free-kick and goal-scoring specialist Dimiti Payet has come off a career high season at West Ham United. Payet will play on the left beside Atletico Madrid’s Antoine Griezmann on the right. Both players are known for their goal-scoring and will play behind Arsenal forward Olivier Giroud.
Although it’s not 100 percent confirmed, Deschamps decision to start Giroud in front of Anthony Martial has caused backlash from the French faithful. Giroud has only scored four goals for Les Bleus this year and also struggled for consistent form with Arsenal F.C.
Griezmann defended the 29 year old in an interview with French radio station RMC, after Giroud was boo’d and whistled by French fans against Cameroon in their last Euro warm up match.
“Those who whistled Olivier Giroud weren’t hurting only him but also us as well.
“We did everything so that he might score, so that he feels confident with us and he responded on the pitch.”
