FRIDAY 18 MARCH 2016

Liverpool have earned themselves a spot in the Europa League Quarter Finals after defeating rivals Manchester United 3-1 on aggregate.

Early signs were worrying for the Reds, as United started the stronger of the two teams.

Louis van Gaal’s men were playing their game at their own pace, and were all over Liverpool in the midfield.

Perhaps there was a glimmer of hope for United fans after Anthony Martial scored a penalty to put them 1-0 up.

That hope was short lived as Brazilian maestro

Phillippe Coutinho
broke hearts moments before half time.

The 23 year old attacking midfielder made use of his pace down the left wing, capitalizing on the inexperience of right back Guillermo Varela.

Coutinho flicked the ball over United goalkeeper David De Gea from the tightest of angles.

All of United’s hard work fizzled from that one lapse in concentration.

It was all a different story in the second half, as the Reds held on to win on aggregate.

The task of scoring three goals was too much for United.

Fan frustration only grows as the weeks go by. It was displayed in the stands as United fans scuffled with Liverpool fans in the home end.

Is LVG’s time almost up at Manchester United?

As for Jurgen Klopp’s men, they march on to the Quarter Finals and are still a chance at winning some silverwear this season.

With Borussia Dortmunds win over Tottenham, there is a chance Klopp could come face to face with his former team.
