WEDNESDAY 24 FEBRUARY 2016
Once again, the Premier League has been shown up by its Spanish superiors in Champions League football.
Barcelona leave Emirates Stadium with a huge advantage, after out-gunning the Gunners 2-0 thanks to a brace from Lionel Messi.
Arsenal managed to keep the game tied up for a good 70 minutes. You can look at it two ways, Arsenal were solid to keep it level for so long, or the Catalans were just toying with them.
It’s the cruel reality when you face Barcelona at home or away. No matter how well your team performs, on a normal day at the office they are impossible to stop.
Arsenal’s confidence grew as the game took shape, and Arsene Wengers players believed they could create a push for a goal. As you would have expected, Barcelona capitalized on their naivety and capitalized on their defensive weakness.
Ironically, it wasn’t Arsenal who would score with their usual counter attacking fast break. Neymar commanded the attacking press and Messi finished with ease past goalkeeper Petr Cech.
Fans will be blaming
Mathieu Flamini, who came on in the 82nd minute. One minute later he conceded a penalty. Rather than passing it off, Messi converted the penalty with ease.
GOAL OF THE DAY
Leeds United midfielder Lewis Cook may not be your regular scorer. But he certainly looked like a natural born striker after this 35 yard cracker against Fulham this morning.
