FRIDAY 19 FEBRUARY 2016
After a long four month nervous wait, the Football Federation of Australia has granted the Wellington Pheonix a 10 year extension of their A-League license.
Social media blew up late in October 2015, when the FFA announced they would not be extending Wellington’s license.
It was an announcement that triggered a negative reaction from fans, but the Nix faithful knew what needed to be done to fix the issue.
The #SaveTheNix campaign created a wave of interest on social media, and was a driving message from fans on match day’s.
As publicity grew, so did the interest from international media outlets. One in particular was Copa90- a media publication dedicated to football and most importantly the fans. They ran a 10 minute story on Youtube which gained more than 50 thousand hits. It was a driving force in the Nix’s fight for survival, reeling in global attention.
The growing support from the Australian footballing community saw a growing number of fans at Nix games.
Eventually, they convinced the FFA that they are A-League fit and deserve their license.
