Man City’s controversial Carling Cup victory |MUNDIAL MORNINGS

THURSDAY 28 JANUARY 2016

The Sky Blues are through to Carling Cup final after a controversial
win over Everton.

The Toffees extended their first leg advantage to 3-1, after
an early goal to Ross Barkley.

Manchester City scored the equalizer through Fernandinho,
following a deflected ball off Leighton Baines. The Toffees were furious after
the referee failed to flag an offside Raheem Sterling, who was out of position
when avoiding the balls flight path.

City’s defence looked susceptible to Everton’s forward
pressure, orchestrated by Deulofeu, Barkley and Osman.

The goal to put both teams level on aggregate was as
controversial as it gets. The ball had clearly rolled beyond the by-line, before
Raheem Sterling dragged it back into play and sent a cross in for a a deadly
Kevin De Bruyne strike.

Sergio Aguero sealed the deal for City, scoring a header
just six minutes after the De Bruyne equalizer.

It was absolute heartbreak for Everton, after copping two
goals which could have been so different. City’s victory came at a cost, with
De Bruyne coming off with a knee injury.

Manchester City will play Liverpool in the Carling Cup final
at Wembley on the 29th of February 3.30am
