Future of Benitez | MUNDIAL MORNINGS

MONDAY 24 NOVEMBER 2015

You don’t lose the El Classico 4-0 without suffering some form of consequence.

Despite heavy criticism from fans, Benitez was backed by Real Madrid’s president Florentino Pérez in a press conference held this morning.

Pérez spoke about the recent transfer speculation.

“I just said that. No one in the board has ever suggested that. We have unanimity. We have to let him work. Some players have been two months without playing; they need time. We need time for the team to work the way we would like.” Fair enough.

“No, that’s not true. A person talks in the moment. I am talking now; what may happen in six months … none of us can know that.”

Rafael Benitez was appointed the managerial position of Real Madrid at the beginning of the season and is now feeling the pressure of the immense role.

Barcelona’s demolition of Real last weekend sent Spanish media into a frenzy, as rumours and speculation about Benitez’s future grows larger by the day.

Benitez tried to push responsibility on the team as a whole, which is a normal defence mechanism for many managers in this position.

“We are all responsible and now we have to show unity in order to win the next game and give the fans something to be happy about, which is something we failed to do [against Barcelona]. We need to get over this result and focus on the next match as soon as possible”.

Despite rumors Zinedine Zidane could take the reins, the Frenchman has denied the claims saying he wants to finish out the season with Real Madrid Castilla (B Team).

“I am with Castilla and if I stay at the club it is the coach of Castilla. Last year, at the end of the season, I had the feeling that I still lacked something to take over the first team.”

STEVEY G WILL WEAR RED AGAIN

Former Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard will wear Red once more in a friendly between Liverpool All stars and Socceroos select XI.

“It will be great to play with the official Liverpool FC Legends,” “The squad looks like it’s a great set of lads. It’ll be good to get on the pitch with them.

The game is likely to sell out, which will the see the likes of Socceroo greats, Mark Bosnich, Craig Foster, Ned Zelic, Brett Emerton and Robbie Slater.

ASPRILLA FIRES PORTLAND CLOSER TO MLS FINAL

Portland Timbers forward Dairon Asprilla fired a 30 yard super strike, in Portland’s 3-1 win over FC Dallas.

The Columbian doubled the home sides lead, in what will be a crucial advantage going into the away leg.

The winner will play either New York Red Bulls or Columbus Crew in the MLS Final
