With European domestic leagues and cup competitions all well and truly underway, and the A-League kick-off tantalisingly close, it’s time to look at what footwear the local and global superstars will be rocking on-pitch over the coming weeks.
Adidas Primeknit – ‘Solar Orange’
Following on from Adidas’ boot revolution earlier this year, the three stripes have given us another fresh twist on their 2 stock silos. Blending the Primeknit technology that we first saw on the feet of Luis Suarez back in February 2014 with their X15 and ACE15 silos, the German brand has given us these bad boys.
Moving away from the bright fluorescent Solar Yellow launch colourway, we’ve already started to see the Solar Orange X and ACE colour-ways on the feet of superstars such as Suarez, Alvaro Morata, David Silva and Julian Draxler during this week’s Champion League fixtures.
With both the ACE and X silos now offering their synthetic, leather and Primeknit variations, it will be interesting to see which players take up the new line.
In the past, Suarez, James Rodriguez and Melbourne Victory fan favourite Gui Finkler have been big advocates of Adidas’ Primeknit offerings, so here’s hoping we get to see a bit more of them moving forward.
Nike – ‘Electro Flare’ pack
The other main player in the boot market has also been pushing out some rather hi-vis colour-ways lately, with Nike’s ‘Lightening Storm’ pack giving us Hyper Pink Mercurials, Turquoise Blue Magistas, bright Green Tiempos and Total Orange Hypervenoms. Whilst they’ve toned it down a little with the new ‘Electro Flare’ releases, the Swoosh has still opted to “splash” the back of their boots with their signature Volt yellow/green, giving a distinct effect that might not cut through on your TV screen, but looks impressive up close.
The Hyper Grape Hypervenom makes for a wonderful boot/kit combination for Machester City’s Joe Hart in his purple Champions League strip, but personally, I’m quite fond of the black Tiempos, bringing back a bit of old school cool, with the Volt splashes providing a modern twist.
Puma – ‘Tricks’ pack
Another of the big boys to release a new colourway in time for this week’s round of Champions League fixtures, Puma dropped their new ‘Tricks’ pack, continuing the unusual move of having a different coloured boot for each foot. We first saw this at the 2014 World Cup with their blue/pink combinations on the feet of Mario Balotelli, Yaya Toure and Cesc Fabregas, but now they’ve applied coats of Orange Clownfish and Electric Blue to their evoPOWER and evoSPEED silos.
This new palette is hard to miss, as Yaya, Cesc and Wolfsburg’s Dante were all seen in the blue/orange evoPOWERs this week, whilst late-goal hero Kun Aguero and Antoine Griezmann were sporting their odd pairs of evoSEEDs.
Gigi Buffon was even rocking the orange/blue gloves with his green, white and red keepers kit, giving us a visual feast between the sticks as he kept a clean sheet against Sevilla in Turin during the week.
New Balance – Visaro/Furon colour-ways
Even New Balance got in on the act recently, dropping their first colourway update since the launch of their Visaro and Furon silos.
The Visaro has been updated from the sleek Bolt blue debut colour to a more subdued Baltic/Serene Green tone, as seen on the feet of Arsenal’s Aaron Ramsey over the last couple of weeks, whilst pacey Manchester City winger Jesus Navas sported the Deep Orchid/Serene Green Furon as he came off the bench to help City overcome Borussia Mönchengladbach away from home.
