The Matildas defeated Brazil 1-0 this morning, causing the
greatest upset in this year’s 2015 FIFA Womens World Cup.

The victory sees the Matildas progress through to the quarter finals,
creating history as the only Australian National team to advance this far in a
World Cup.

Alen Stajcic’s decision to persist with his side’s
possession game paid dividends against Brazil over the full 90 minutes.

Despites Brazils daunting presence of individual quality
including superstar Marta; their lack of fitness, structure and preparation was
exposed in full today.

The game was very end to end in the first half, although
Australia took pride in their dominance in possession.

A long range wonder strike from Formiga almost put the
Brazilians in front, but was heroically saved by Lydia Williams.

The Matildas continued to press and frustrate the Brazilians
in the second half, before finally breaking the deadlock in the 80th
minute.

An inspiring run from Captain Lisa De Vanna saw her
attempted shot blocked, as super substitution Kyah came to the rescue to fire
the Matildas in front.

The footballing world has gone into an online frenzy, in
total shock of what we have witnessed from tonight’s game.

The Matildas will go down in history as the greatest Australian
national team ever.

Alen Stajic is confident his girls can go all the way and be
the first Australian team to win a FIFA World Cup.

Confidence will be sky high for the Matildas, as they
prepare to face either Japan or Netherlands at the Quarter finals stage.
